The SPI 40-093-7 is an optical comparator chart and reticle designed for use with 7x magnification comparator systems. It measures 1 inch in overall diameter and provides graduated increments of 0.005 inches, allowing technicians and quality control professionals to make precise dimensional measurements and part profile comparisons. This reticle is placed in the optical path of a comparator to overlay a scaled reference grid directly onto the magnified image of the workpiece. Machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians use this type of reticle for inspection of part geometry, thread profiles, and edge contours.
This chart and reticle is suited for use in shop-floor and laboratory optical comparator setups requiring 7x magnification. It is commonly used in manufacturing environments where repeatable, non-contact dimensional inspection is required. Applications include verification of small machined parts, stamped components, cutting tool profiles, and other precision workpieces where visual overlay measurement is the preferred inspection method.
Designed for use with optical comparators operating at 7x magnification that accept a 1 inch diameter reticle insert.
Installation is performed by a qualified metrology technician or machinist familiar with optical comparator operation. Power down or disable the comparator light source before inserting or removing the reticle to avoid eye exposure to the projection lamp. Handle the reticle by its edges only to prevent smudging the optical surface. Consult the comparator manufacturer's documentation for proper reticle seating and alignment procedures.
