The SPI 23-174-6 is a truncated taperlock thread plug gage designed to verify internal threads to the 7/16-28 UNEF specification at Class 2A tolerance. It includes both a Go and No Go member, allowing technicians to confirm that a tapped hole falls within the acceptable tolerance range in a single tool set. The gage is machined from tool steel for dimensional stability and wear resistance under repeated use. A 2-inch taperlock handle is included. This type of gage is standard equipment for machinists, quality inspectors, and precision manufacturing tradespeople working to UNEF thread standards.
This gage is suited for inspection of 7/16-28 UNEF internal threads in production, maintenance, and quality-assurance environments. It is appropriate for both shop-floor use and receiving inspection where Class 2A thread conformance must be verified. The truncated form reduces contact area on the thread flanks, which can extend gage service life in high-volume inspection applications.
Designed for inspection of 7/16-28 UNEF internal threads conforming to Class 2A tolerance requirements. Compatible with standard taperlock handle systems.
Thread plug gages are used by quality control inspectors and machinists and do not require installation in a mechanical system. Before use, clean the gage and the threaded hole being inspected to remove chips, oil, and debris that could produce false readings. Do not force the No Go member into a thread — if it enters more than two turns under finger pressure, the thread is out of tolerance. Store the gage in a protective case away from impact and temperature extremes to preserve calibration.
