The SPI 21-801-6 is a portable surface roughness gage designed for shop-floor and field measurement of machined, ground, and finished surfaces. It measures nine major roughness parameters using a 0.0001-inch stylus tip radius, delivering results on an integrated LCD display. Data output is handled via USB, allowing values to be transferred directly to a computer or data logger. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the unit operates reliably between 40 degrees F and 105 degrees F. Machinists, quality technicians, and precision-trade inspectors use this instrument to verify surface finish compliance on manufactured components.
The 21-801-6 is suited for both production-floor quality control and incoming inspection in metalworking, machining, grinding, and fabrication environments. Its compact form factor measures 4.35 inches long, 1.95 inches wide, and 1.85 inches tall, making it easy to use in tight or in-process measurement scenarios. The included AC adapter, protective case, and USB cable make it ready for immediate deployment out of the box. Residential or light commercial maintenance trades requiring surface verification after machining repairs will also find it applicable.
Designed as a portable, standalone surface roughness measurement instrument suitable for use on machined metal, cast, ground, and similarly finished surfaces in quality-control and inspection applications.
This is a handheld measurement instrument and does not require permanent installation. Prior to use, ensure the stylus and workpiece surface are clean and free of debris to avoid erroneous readings or stylus damage. Charge the lithium-ion battery fully before first use using the included AC adapter. Calibrate or verify the instrument against a traceable reference standard per your quality system requirements before taking production measurements.
