The SPI 21-240-7 is an offset chisel-style contact point designed for use with dial indicators. It threads into standard AGD Group 1 dial indicator stems using a 4-48 thread and provides a contact point length of 0.625 inches. The tip is machined from black oxide steel, which resists corrosion and reduces light reflection during measurement. This contact point is installed by metrology technicians, machinists, and quality control professionals who require precise surface contact geometry for inspection setups where a standard point cannot reach.
This contact point is suited for dimensional inspection work in machine shops, toolrooms, and manufacturing quality assurance environments. The offset chisel geometry allows the indicator to contact surfaces that are recessed, angled, or otherwise inaccessible with a standard ball-tip point. It is compatible with AGD Group 1 dial indicators that accept a 4-48 threaded contact point. The 30-degree point angle provides consistent, repeatable contact on flat and near-flat surfaces.

Installation requires threading the contact point into the dial indicator stem by hand, then snugging with the appropriate small wrench to avoid cross-threading the 4-48 threads. Power down or zero out the indicator before swapping contact points to preserve your reference reading. Do not overtighten, as the fine 4-48 thread is susceptible to damage from excessive torque. Contact point swaps should be performed on a clean, stable surface to prevent dropping and damaging the indicator or the point.
