The SPI 20-632-6 is a ruby ball contact point designed for use with test indicators in precision measurement applications. The ruby ball tip measures 2.00 millimeters (0.078 inches) in diameter and the contact point length is 0.371 inches. Ruby is chosen for its hardness and wear resistance, making it well-suited for repeated stylus contact on hard or abrasive surfaces. This contact point is a consumable replacement component that machinists, metrologists, and quality control technicians swap out during routine maintenance of test indicator setups.
This contact point is used in precision dimensional inspection work, including surface runout checks, bore alignment, and fixture verification. It attaches to compatible Peacock test indicators used in machine shops, tool rooms, and quality labs. The small ball diameter is appropriate for fine measurement tasks where a larger contact tip would introduce cosine error or fail to seat properly in tight features.
Designed for use with Peacock test indicators as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians familiar with test indicator maintenance. Remove the indicator from service before replacing the contact point to avoid accidental measurement error or tip damage. Use the appropriate spanner or flat wrench as recommended for the indicator model — do not overtighten, as ruby tips are brittle and can crack under excessive torque. Verify stylus seating and zero the indicator before returning it to service.
