The SPI 19-454-8 is a Class ZZ minus plug pin gage machined from steel and used to verify that a drilled, reamed, or bored hole meets its minimum acceptable diameter. At a nominal diameter of 0.454 inches with a minus tolerance of 0.0002 inches, this gage confirms that a feature is at or above the low limit of its specified range. Class ZZ designates the working-gage tolerance class appropriate for production inspection of general-tolerance holes. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and quality-control technicians use pin gages as a fast, reliable go/no-go check during in-process and final inspection.
This pin gage is suited for use in machine shops, manufacturing cells, and inspection departments where hole diameter verification is part of a standard quality workflow. It is applied to ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both light and heavy manufacturing environments. The minus configuration means the gage diameter is ground below nominal, making it the correct choice when checking the low-limit boundary of a tolerance band.
Designed as an individual replacement or supplemental pin for use with standard plug gage handle sets and pin gage block sets that accept 0.454-inch diameter gage pins.
Pin gages are handled by metrology and quality-control personnel and do not require power tools or utility shutdowns. Always clean the gage pin and the feature to be inspected before use to prevent debris from causing false readings. Store the pin in its case or protective sleeve when not in use to prevent nicking the ground surface. Never force a pin gage into an undersized feature, as this can damage the gage surface and compromise measurement accuracy.
