The SPI 15-976-4 is a horizontal and vertical electronic linear scale designed for precision measurement in machining, fabrication, and toolroom environments. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 8 inches with an accuracy of 0.0015 inches and a resolution of 0.0005 inches, making it well suited for applications where repeatable, fine-tolerance readings are required. The scale body is constructed from stainless steel and features a data output port for integration with digital readout systems or SPC data collection. Two CR2032 lithium batteries are included. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision fabricators are the primary installers and users of this instrument.
This linear scale is used in horizontal or vertical orientations, adapting to a wide range of machine tool setups, surface plates, and fixture inspection stations. It is appropriate for both production floor and quality control bench use. The 13.25-inch scale length accommodates full-travel measurement across the stated 8-inch range. Its battery-powered operation eliminates the need for a dedicated power supply at the measurement station, supporting portable and benchtop use alike.
Designed as an OEM-style precision measurement scale suitable for use with digital readout systems and machine tool installations that accept standard electronic linear scale inputs.
Installation is typically performed by a machinist or metrology technician familiar with linear scale mounting and alignment procedures. Secure the scale body and read head according to the machine tool or fixture manufacturer's alignment specifications to maintain stated accuracy. Verify that the data output cable and connector are compatible with the receiving DRO or data collection system before finalizing the installation. Handle the scale with care during mounting to avoid mechanical shock that could affect calibration.
