The SPI 15-136-5 is a portable electronic hardness tester designed to measure Shore A hardness across a full 0 to 100 HSA scale. It delivers readings accurate to within 1 point, making it suitable for quality control applications involving rubber, elastomers, soft plastics, and other compressible materials. The unit is battery powered for field and bench use. Licensed technicians, quality inspectors, and material handlers in HVAC, plumbing, and industrial service environments use this tester to verify gasket, O-ring, and seal hardness on site without sending samples to a lab.
This tester is well suited for incoming inspection, production floor QC, and field service scenarios where material hardness verification is required. It is commonly used to evaluate rubber seals, hoses, gaskets, foam insulation, and soft plastic components found throughout HVAC, plumbing, and pool equipment assemblies. The portable form factor allows use in both shop and field settings, and the battery power source eliminates the need for a nearby outlet during service calls or receiving inspections.
Designed for measuring Shore A hardness on rubber, elastomers, soft plastics, and similar compressible materials; confirm specimen thickness and surface flatness meet Shore A durometer testing requirements before use.
No installation is required for this handheld instrument. Ensure the battery is installed and the probe tip is clean and undamaged before taking measurements. Apply firm, even pressure perpendicular to the test surface per standard durometer procedure. Follow applicable ASTM D2240 or equivalent test standards for consistent, repeatable results.
