The SPI 15-059-9 is a rectangular steel gage block measuring 0.145 inches, manufactured to Grade AS-1 accuracy. Gage blocks are precision-ground reference standards used to verify, calibrate, and set measuring instruments to a known dimension. This block ships with NIST certification, providing a documented traceability chain required in quality-controlled shop environments. Grade AS-1 designation indicates tight dimensional tolerance, making it suitable for calibration lab use as well as toolroom and inspection applications. Machinists, metrology technicians, and quality control inspectors rely on gage blocks as the foundation of dimensional accuracy in manufacturing and inspection workflows.
This gage block is suited for use in precision measurement applications across machining, inspection, and metrology environments. It is used to calibrate and verify micrometers, height gauges, comparators, and other dimensional measuring tools. The rectangular geometry allows for wringing with other blocks to build up composite stack dimensions. Typical applications include toolroom setups, incoming inspection, and calibration lab use where a traceable reference standard is required.
Designed as a standard rectangular gage block compatible with conventional gage block sets and accessories that accept steel blocks of this geometry. Wringes with other Grade AS-1 steel blocks conforming to ASME B89.1.9 rectangular block standards.
Gage blocks are handled and stored by metrology technicians and quality control personnel, not installed in the traditional sense. Clean block surfaces thoroughly with lint-free cloth and appropriate solvent before use or wringing to prevent contamination that can affect accuracy. Store in the provided case away from temperature extremes and vibration sources. Never use gage blocks as a substitute for workholding or mechanical stops, as surface damage will compromise dimensional accuracy.
