The SPI 14-401-4 is a magnetic-base indicator positioner holder designed to secure dial indicators and similar precision measuring instruments during inspection, setup, and quality-control operations. The holder features a 175-pound magnetic pull force and a fine-adjustment mechanism that allows controlled, incremental repositioning of the indicator arm without disturbing the base. The post-and-rod arm style provides flexible reach and orientation. The rectangular flat base includes a built-in magnetic mount, making it ready to attach to ferrous machine tables, surface plates, and similar workholding surfaces. Machinists, quality technicians, and tool-room professionals are the primary users.
This holder is suited for use in machine shops, toolrooms, and quality-control departments where a dial indicator or test indicator must be held rigidly at a precise position during measurement. The magnetic base attaches directly to any flat, ferrous surface, including mill tables, lathe beds, and granite surface plates. The fine-adjustment feature is especially useful during part runout checks, bore alignment, and fixture setup work where small movements must be made without losing position entirely.
Designed as a general-purpose magnetic indicator holder compatible with standard dial indicators and test indicators that use a universal dovetail or stem-clamp attachment. Attaches to any flat ferrous surface.
Installation requires no tools — engage the magnetic base switch to secure the holder to the ferrous work surface, then position the arm and indicator to the desired location. Before making fine adjustments, ensure all locking knobs on the arm joints are loosened, then re-tighten after final positioning to prevent indicator drift. Always verify the mounting surface is clean and free of chips or coolant that could reduce magnetic holding force. Do not mount on non-ferrous surfaces such as aluminum tables or cast polymer surface plates.
