The SPEARS s1520-15f is a 1.5-inch PVC utility swing check valve designed to allow one-directional flow while preventing backflow in a wide range of fluid-handling systems. Built from white PVC with female NPT threaded connections on both ends, this valve seats on a long-life EPDM elastomer disc weighted for full-flow operation with minimal pressure drop. The maintenance-free sealed construction eliminates the need for periodic disassembly or lubrication. Minimum opening pressure is less than 0.5 psi, and flow velocity must not exceed 5 feet per second. Licensed plumbers, irrigation contractors, and pool and spa technicians are the primary installers of this valve type.
This valve is suited for landscape irrigation systems, pool and spa plumbing, aquaculture setups, OEM fluid-handling assemblies, and general-purpose water service applications. The FNPT x FNPT threaded end connections make it compatible with standard NPT-threaded PVC fittings and pipe common to residential and light commercial installations. Its compact footprint fits tight plumbing chases where full-size check valves would not be practical. The swing-disc design is optimized for horizontal piping runs, though the valve may also be installed in a vertical up-flow orientation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation swing check valve for 1.5-inch threaded PVC piping systems in landscape irrigation, pool and spa, aquaculture, and general-purpose water-service applications.
Installation must be performed by a qualified plumber or licensed irrigation or pool contractor in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line completely before installing or removing the valve. The flow arrow molded on the valve body must point in the direction of intended flow — never install the valve inverted or against the flow direction. Use PTFE thread tape or an approved pipe-thread sealant on all FNPT connections; do not over-tighten threaded PVC fittings, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.
