The SPEARS 854-012 is a 1-1/4 inch PVC Schedule 80 Van Stone style socket flange designed for use in pressure piping systems where a removable, rotating flange connection is required. Van Stone flanges feature a loose backing ring that allows bolt-hole alignment without rotating the pipe or fitting, making them a practical choice in tight or fixed-pipe installations. The PVC Schedule 80 construction provides greater wall thickness than Schedule 40, improving pressure rating and impact resistance in demanding service environments. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in chemical, industrial, irrigation, and water treatment applications where corrosion resistance is essential.
This socket flange is suited for residential and commercial piping systems handling water, mild chemicals, and other fluids compatible with PVC. The socket end accepts 1-1/4 inch PVC pipe for solvent-cement joining, creating a reliable, leak-free connection at the flange face. It is commonly installed at pump inlets and outlets, filter housings, tanks, and equipment connections where flanged access points are required for maintenance or equipment removal.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit component for 1-1/4 inch Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using ANSI-pattern flanged connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Before installation, shut off and depressurize the piping system completely. The socket end requires proper solvent-cement application using PVC primer and Schedule 80-rated cement per manufacturer instructions. Allow full cure time before re-pressurizing the system, and verify bolt torque on the backing ring flange bolts is applied evenly in a cross pattern to prevent flange face distortion.
