The SPEARS 73840 is a 4-inch PVC long sweep quarter-bend elbow designed for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping systems. The long-radius sweep geometry reduces flow resistance compared to standard short-turn fittings, making it well suited for gravity-drain applications where maintaining flow velocity and minimizing clogging risk is important. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in both new construction and retrofit drain-line work. At 4 inches nominal size, it handles high-volume waste lines typically found in commercial and residential plumbing infrastructure.
This fitting is used in horizontal-to-vertical and horizontal-to-horizontal drain transitions where a gradual 90-degree change of direction is required. The long-sweep design is commonly specified in commercial restroom cores, industrial drainage runs, and residential main-drain stacks where code or best practice calls for reduced turbulence at direction changes. It is appropriate for both above-ground and below-slab applications depending on the installation method and local code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for 4-inch PVC DWV piping systems using solvent-weld socket connections.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Solvent-cement joining requires proper surface preparation including cutting square, deburring, cleaning with PVC cleaner, and applying primer before cement as required by code. Ensure adequate support and proper slope on all horizontal drain runs. Do not use this fitting for pressure piping unless the fitting is rated and listed for that application.
