The SPEARS 54211159613 is a molded PVC standard adapter designed to transition between insert and female NPT threaded connections in polyethylene pipe systems. At 1-1/2 inches nominal size with an Insert x FNPT end style, this fitting measures 3-1/16 inches in length and is manufactured domestically from rigid gray PVC. The barbed insert end provides a secure mechanical grip with polyethylene pipe, while the female NPT threads accept standard threaded fittings or valves. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this adapter in pressure-rated distribution and service line applications where a threaded takeoff from a poly pipe run is required.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations involving polyethylene distribution pipe. It is compatible with ASTM D 2104 Schedule 40 or standard-wall polyethylene pipe as well as ASTM D 2239 SIDR pressure-rated polyethylene pipe. Typical applications include water service lines, irrigation mains, and rural water system connections where poly pipe transitions to a threaded valve, meter, or manifold. The PVC construction resists chemical attack and corrosion, making it appropriate for potable water and non-aggressive fluid service.
Designed for use with ASTM D 2104 Schedule 40 or standard-wall polyethylene pipe and ASTM D 2239 SIDR pressure-rated polyethylene pipe in 1-1/2 inch nominal size.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers following IPC guidelines and local authority requirements. Depressurize and drain the line completely before making or breaking any connection. The insert end should be fully seated into the polyethylene pipe and secured with an appropriately sized clamp or crimp ring per the pipe manufacturer's instructions. Do not overtighten the female NPT threads; use thread sealant tape or compound rated for PVC fittings to prevent stress cracking at the threaded joint.
