The SPEARS 54211158784 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing bushing designed to connect a 3/8-inch male NPT thread to a 1/4-inch female NPT thread. Molded from rigid gray PVC, it measures 13/16 inches in length and carries a Schedule 80 extra-heavy pressure rating. This fitting is used to reduce pipe or fitting openings in pressurized systems where a threaded transition is required. Plumbers and pipefitters install it in water treatment, chemical handling, irrigation, and industrial process piping where PVC is the specified material. The domestic manufacture indicates it meets U.S. production standards commonly required on municipal and commercial jobs.
This bushing is suited for residential and commercial plumbing systems, industrial process lines, and irrigation headers where a threaded reduction from 3/8 inch to 1/4 inch is needed. The MNPT x FNPT configuration allows it to thread directly onto male-threaded pipe or nipples while accepting a female-threaded fitting or valve on the other end. Schedule 80 wall thickness makes it appropriate for higher-pressure applications where Schedule 40 fittings are not rated for the service conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using 3/8-inch to 1/4-inch NPT connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for PVC and the intended service fluid. Do not overtighten PVC threaded fittings with pipe wrenches, as cracking the threads is a common failure mode; hand-tight plus one to two turns is the standard practice for PVC NPT connections.
