The SPEARS 1436-251 is a molded PVC reducing adapter designed to transition between a 2-inch insert connection and a 1-1/2-inch male NPT threaded fitting. Manufactured domestically by Spears Manufacturing, this adapter measures 3-7/32 inches in length and is constructed from rigid, gray PVC. The barbed insert end provides a secure mechanical grip on polyethylene pipe, while the MNPT end threads directly into female-threaded fittings or valves. Chemical and corrosion resistance make this fitting suitable for a wide range of fluid handling applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this component in low-pressure water distribution and irrigation systems.
This reducing adapter is intended for use with ASTM D 2104 Schedule 40 standard-wall or ASTM D 2239 SIDR pressure-rated polyethylene pipe on the insert side. The MNPT end is compatible with standard female NPT threaded connections. Typical install scenarios include residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation mainlines, and water service laterals where a size reduction from 2-inch PE pipe to a 1-1/2-inch threaded port is required. The molded PVC construction resists scale buildup and chemical degradation in both potable and reclaimed water systems.
Designed for use with ASTM D 2104 Schedule 40 standard-wall polyethylene pipe and ASTM D 2239 SIDR pressure-rated polyethylene pipe on the insert end. The MNPT end connects to standard female NPT threaded fittings and valves in 1-1/2-inch thread size.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off water supply and relieve system pressure before beginning work. The insert end should be fully seated onto the polyethylene pipe and secured with an appropriate clamp or crimp ring per the pipe and fitting manufacturer guidelines. Do not overtighten the MNPT end into female threaded ports; use thread sealant tape or compound appropriate for PVC fittings.
