The SOUTHWIRE xhhw4/0strblkmr is a 4/0 AWG stranded aluminum alloy conductor wire rated for 600 volts and insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) to meet XHHW standards. The 18-strand configuration provides flexibility during pulling and termination. Rated to 90 degrees C in both dry and wet locations, this wire supports ampacities of 150 amps at 60 degrees C, 180 amps at 75 degrees C, and 205 amps at 90 degrees C. It is sold on a master reel, making it well suited for large commercial or industrial jobs where significant footage is required. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors are the primary installers of this product.
This wire is used in commercial and industrial electrical distribution applications, including feeder runs, service entrance conductors, and branch circuit wiring where aluminum conductors are specified. The XHHW designation means it is approved for use in wet or dry conduit installations. The black insulation color is standard for phase identification in many large-conductor applications. Master reel packaging is intended for high-volume jobs and electrical supply houses pulling custom lengths.
Designed for use in conduit systems requiring XHHW-rated aluminum conductors at 600 volts, suitable for commercial and industrial feeder and service entrance wiring per NEC guidelines.
Installation of 4/0 AWG feeder conductors must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before terminating or splicing. Use aluminum-rated lugs and antioxidant compound at all termination points, as required by NEC for aluminum conductors. Confirm conduit fill calculations prior to pulling to avoid insulation damage.
