The SOUTHWIRE L491 is a combination compression coupling designed to connect EMT conduit to flexible conduit in a single fitting. This type of connector eliminates the need for separate EMT couplings and flex connectors at transition points, simplifying raceway assembly in both new construction and retrofit electrical work. The fitting uses a compression-style connection for the EMT side, providing a secure, tool-assisted fit without set screws. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this fitting wherever an EMT run transitions to a flexible conduit whip, such as at equipment connections or vibration-sensitive terminations.
This coupling is suited for residential and light commercial electrical installations where EMT conduit transitions to flexible conduit at junction points, motor connections, HVAC equipment whips, or panel terminations. The 1/2 inch trade size fits the most common conduit size used in branch circuit and equipment wiring applications. Installation must comply with applicable NEC requirements for conduit fittings and raceway continuity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use fitting for 1/2 inch EMT to flexible conduit transitions in standard electrical raceway installations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize all circuits in the affected raceway before beginning work. Ensure conduit ends are reamed and free of burrs before seating the fitting to avoid damage to wire insulation. Verify that the compression nut is fully tightened to maintain raceway continuity and a secure mechanical connection.
