The SOUTHWIRE IML-42-2 is a straight malleable insulated squeeze-type connector designed for terminating 3/4-inch flexible metallic conduit (FMC), commonly called Greenfield flex, at an electrical box or enclosure knockout. The malleable iron body provides reliable mechanical strength, while the insulated throat protects wire insulation at the point of entry. Electricians use this type of connector when transitioning from rigid wiring to a flexible whip, particularly where vibration or equipment movement is a factor. This is a standard box-entry fitting suited for commercial and residential electrical installations.
This connector is used wherever 3/4-inch FMC terminates at a junction box, panel, or enclosure. Common applications include motor connections, appliance whips, HVAC equipment connections, and other installations where NEC permits the use of flexible metallic conduit. The squeeze-style design allows secure attachment without threading, which speeds up installation in tight spaces. Licensed electricians and experienced installers typically specify this fitting in both new construction and retrofit electrical work.
Designed for use with 3/4-inch flexible metallic conduit (FMC) and standard electrical box knockouts sized for 3/4-inch conduit fittings.
This fitting is installed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC Article 348 governing flexible metallic conduit. De-energize the circuit and verify lockout before working inside any box or enclosure. Insert the conduit into the connector, tighten the squeeze clamp securely, and thread the locknut onto the knockout from inside the box. Do not over-torque the locknut, as malleable fittings can crack under excessive force.
