The SOUTHWIRE/COLEMAN CABLE 55278521 is a 25-foot coil of 14/3 ACT armored cable designed for use in branch-circuit wiring where mechanical protection is required. The cable features three 14-gauge copper conductors inside a steel armor jacket, with an aluminum bond wire serving as the equipment ground. Rated to 90 degrees C, it meets the thermal requirements of standard residential and light commercial wiring applications. Licensed electricians install this cable in conduit-free runs where a self-protecting, armored assembly is code-acceptable.
This armored cable is suited for residential and light commercial electrical installations where NEC-compliant mechanical protection is needed without running separate conduit. Common applications include branch circuits in basements, utility areas, exposed runs in unfinished spaces, and retrofit wiring projects. The 25-foot coil format keeps the cable manageable on the job site and reduces waste on shorter runs. It is packaged in units of 5 coils per pack for convenience on larger projects.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use armored cable suitable for 14/3 ACT installations in residential and light commercial branch-circuit wiring per NEC Article 320.
Installation of armored cable should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 320 and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit at the panel before making any connections. Use an approved cable ripper or hacksaw to cut the steel armor, and always install an approved anti-short bushing at each cut end before terminating conductors. Secure the cable with listed AC cable staples or straps at intervals required by the NEC.
