The SOUTHWIRE 55082003 is a reduced-wall flexible aluminum metal conduit (FMC) sold in a 100-foot roll at 3/8 inch trade size. It provides the structural strength and durability expected from flexible metal conduit while weighing approximately two-thirds less than comparable steel FMC, making it easier to handle and route in tight spaces. Designed to work with standard conduit connectors and device boxes, this conduit meets UL Standard 1, NEC Article 350, and Federal Specification WW-C 566C. Electricians install it in residential and light commercial applications where a flexible raceway is required for equipment connections or where rigid conduit cannot be routed.
This conduit is suited for use in residential, commercial, and industrial wiring installations where a lightweight, flexible raceway is needed. Common applications include final connections to HVAC equipment, motors, luminaires, and other devices that require vibration isolation or a short flexible section between rigid conduit and the equipment enclosure. The reduced-wall aluminum construction simplifies pulling and bending compared to steel FMC, particularly in overhead or congested installations.
Designed for use with standard 3/8 inch flexible metal conduit connectors and device boxes per NEC Article 350. Suitable as a drop-in replacement or new-installation FMC wherever 3/8 inch aluminum flexible metal conduit is specified.
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NEC Article 350 and all applicable local codes. De-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage before making any terminations. Use listed FMC fittings rated for the trade size and confirm that the conduit is properly secured and supported at intervals required by the NEC. Aluminum conduit must not be used in wet locations or where exposed to corrosive conditions unless listed for that environment.
