The SOUTHWIRE 55081802 is a Type RWS reduced wall steel flexible metal conduit supplied in a 100-foot coil at a 1/2-inch trade size. It is manufactured from a galvanized, high-strength steel alloy strip that is helically formed into a continuously interlocked conduit body. The reduced wall design saves weight and space without sacrificing the structural integrity needed to protect conductors in raceway applications. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this conduit where flexibility is required at equipment connections or in areas where rigid conduit is impractical.
Type RWS flexible metal conduit is suited for use in dry and protected locations in both residential and commercial electrical installations. It is commonly used for final connections to HVAC equipment, motors, luminaires, and other electrical apparatus where vibration isolation or directional flexibility is needed. The continuously interlocked construction allows the conduit to be routed around obstacles without the need for fittings at every bend, making it a practical choice for tight mechanical rooms and equipment alcoves.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation option compatible with standard 1/2-inch Type RWS flexible metal conduit fittings used in commercial and residential electrical raceways.
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 348, which governs flexible metal conduit. De-energize all circuits and lock out the panel before making conductor connections. Use only listed fittings rated for Type RWS reduced wall conduit to ensure a secure, code-compliant termination. Avoid over-bending beyond the minimum bend radius specified for the trade size, as excessive bending can deform the interlocked profile and compromise conductor protection.
