The SOUTHWIRE 55 is a galvanized steel rigid conduit coupling designed to join threaded rigid metal conduit (RMC) or intermediate metal conduit (IMC) sections end to end. Rated for both indoor and outdoor installation, the galvanized steel construction resists corrosion in wet, damp, and exposed locations. This 1-1/2 inch coupling is a standard field fitting installed by licensed electricians during conduit rough-in on residential, commercial, and light industrial projects. It accepts standard threaded conduit ends and provides a secure, continuous raceway for conductors.

This coupling is suited for use wherever threaded RMC or IMC conduit systems are installed. Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 344 for rigid metal conduit or Article 342 for IMC. De-energize any nearby circuits before working in the conduit system. Thread conduit ends fully into each side of the coupling and apply listed thread lubricant or thread sealant as required by the installation environment. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as this can damage conduit threads and compromise the raceway integrity.
