The SOUTHWIRE 20491712 is a THHN/THWN-rated stranded copper building wire designed for general wiring applications in commercial and residential electrical systems. Sized at 8 AWG with a 40-amp capacity and a 600-volt rating, this wire features a thermoplastic insulation layer and a nylon jacket for added protection. The 19-strand copper core provides flexibility during pull-through in conduit runs. The blue jacket color supports circuit identification in multi-wire installations. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors are the primary installers for this product type.
This wire is suited for use in conduit, raceways, and cable trays in both dry and wet locations. THHN/THWN dual-rated wire handles a broad range of branch circuit, feeder, and service wiring applications. It performs in environments where resistance to abrasion, heat, moisture, oil, and gasoline exposure is required. The 500-foot coil with a 250-foot minimum cut length makes it practical for larger commercial jobs and panel feed runs where significant linear footage is needed.
Designed as a standard THHN/THWN replacement or new-installation wire for use in conduit, raceways, and approved cable trays in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems where 8 AWG copper conductors are specified.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Use appropriate wire-pulling lubricant when routing through conduit to avoid jacket damage. Verify conduit fill calculations per NEC Article 358 or applicable raceway article before pulling multiple conductors.
