The SOUTHWIRE 20489112 is a THHN/THWN-rated, 8 AWG stranded copper building wire designed for general-purpose branch circuit and feeder wiring in commercial and residential construction. Rated at 40 amps and 600 volts, it features a thermoplastic insulation layer with a nylon jacket in white. The 19-strand copper core provides flexibility during pull-through in conduit runs. This wire is sold in 1-foot increments with a 250-foot minimum cut length, making it suitable for job-lot purchasing. Licensed electricians are the primary installers for this product.
This wire is used in conduit installations for branch circuits, feeder runs, and equipment wiring in both residential and light commercial applications. The THHN rating makes it suitable for dry locations, while the THWN rating extends its use to wet locations. The nylon jacket provides resistance to abrasion, gasoline, heat, moisture, and oil, supporting use in demanding environments such as industrial panels, motor connections, and service entrance conduit runs.
Designed for use in conduit systems where THHN or THWN conductors are specified per NEC requirements. Suitable as a general-purpose building wire for branch circuits, feeders, and equipment wiring in conduit or raceway installations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Use wire lubricant for long conduit runs to avoid jacket damage during pulling. Do not exceed the wire's 40-amp or 600-volt ratings when sizing overcurrent protection.
