The SOUTHWARK METAL TD_24X12X48 is a hot-dip galvanized steel sheet metal trunk duct section measuring 24 inches wide by 12 inches tall by 48 inches long. It is used in forced-air HVAC systems to distribute conditioned air from the air handler or furnace to branch takeoffs and supply registers. The duct features a button snap-lock longitudinal seam with S-cleat and drive connection ends for fast, rigid field assembly. Cross-breaking on the flat panels adds structural stiffness and reduces drumming under airflow pressure. HVAC sheet metal mechanics and duct fabricators are the primary installers of this component.
This trunk duct section is suited for residential and light commercial forced-air systems where a 24-inch by 12-inch rectangular main or sub-main duct run is required. The 48-inch section length keeps joint count manageable across long straight runs. The hot-dip galvanized steel construction resists corrosion in unconditioned spaces such as crawlspaces, basements, attics, and mechanical rooms. S-cleat and drive connection ends allow this section to join directly to adjacent duct sections, fittings, or transitions without additional fabrication at the connection points.
Designed as an OEM-style rectangular trunk duct section compatible with standard S-cleat and drive connection duct systems built to SMACNA rectangular duct construction standards for residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed sheet metal mechanic or HVAC technician in accordance with SMACNA Duct Construction Standards and local mechanical codes. The air handling unit or furnace must be powered down and the system depressurized before modifying or extending any duct run. Duct sections should be supported at intervals per SMACNA hanger and support guidelines, and all joints should be sealed with listed duct sealant or approved tape to meet energy code requirements. Do not cut, notch, or modify the snap-lock seam, as doing so compromises the structural integrity of the section.
