The SOUTHWARK METAL SP58_20X16 is a spiral round sheet metal duct reducer designed for transitioning between two different duct diameters in commercial and residential HVAC systems. Fabricated from hot dipped galvanized steel at 24 gauge, this tapped reducer connects a 20-inch diameter duct section to a 16-inch diameter section, maintaining airflow continuity across the transition. The spiral seam construction provides structural rigidity along the body, and the tapped ends allow for secure, low-leakage connections to adjoining spiral duct sections. HVAC sheet metal installers and mechanical contractors are the primary trades who work with this fitting.
This reducer is suited for use in supply and return air trunk systems where duct sizing steps down as branches are taken off the main run. It is applicable in both light commercial and residential forced-air systems that use round spiral duct. The fitting meets ACCA and SMACNA standards, making it appropriate for systems designed and installed to those specifications. It is installed in-line with round spiral duct runs where a diameter reduction is required.
Designed for use with round spiral duct systems using 20-inch and 16-inch diameter sections that conform to ACCA and SMACNA standards for sheet metal ductwork fabrication and installation.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal mechanics. The duct system should be fully de-energized and the air handler shut down before modifying any duct section. Connections to adjoining spiral duct should be secured with sheet metal screws and sealed with UL 181-listed mastic or foil tape in accordance with SMACNA guidelines. Do not force or distort the fitting during installation, as deformation can compromise sealing surfaces and airflow performance.
