The SOUTHWARK METAL mc-8d-60 is a hot-dipped galvanized sheet metal drive cleat used to connect and reinforce rectangular ductwork joints in HVAC sheet metal fabrication. Part of the 8D series, this cleat measures 60 inches in length and 1-1/8 inches in width, formed from 28-gauge steel. It is installed by HVAC sheet metal mechanics during duct assembly and provides a secure mechanical connection at transverse duct joints. The hot-dipped galvanized finish delivers corrosion resistance suitable for both supply and return air applications in residential and light commercial systems.
Drive cleats are used at the seams of rectangular sheet metal ductwork to lock mating duct sections together at flanged joints. This 60-inch length allows field mechanics to cut sections to size as needed for various duct widths on the job site. Typical applications include new construction duct fabrication and duct system retrofits where standard SMACNA drive-and-slide joint methods are specified. This cleat is appropriate for low-pressure residential and commercial duct systems built from galvanized sheet metal.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment drive cleat for rectangular galvanized sheet metal ductwork assemblies using SMACNA-standard drive-and-slide transverse joint connections.
Drive cleats are installed by licensed HVAC sheet metal mechanics as part of transverse duct joint assembly. Cut the cleat to the required length using tin snips or a cleat cutter before driving it over the mating duct flanges with a drive cleat hammer or mallet. Ensure all system airflow is shut down and the duct section is de-energized from any connected HVAC equipment before making connections. Follow SMACNA duct construction standards for proper joint reinforcement and cleat spacing requirements.
