The SOUTHWARK METAL ATD_5IN is a 5-inch diameter Air-Tite sheet metal duct takeoff with an integrated damper, fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel. It is designed to branch conditioned airflow from a main trunk duct to a branch run in forced-air HVAC distribution systems. The galvanized steel construction resists corrosion in both residential and light commercial environments. The built-in damper allows the installer to balance airflow at the takeoff point without adding a separate balancing device. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal mechanics are the primary installers of this fitting.
This takeoff fitting is used in residential and light commercial forced-air duct systems where a branch connection must be made from a rectangular or round trunk duct to a 5-inch round branch run. It is well suited for supply air distribution in new construction and retrofit installations that follow ACCA Manual D duct design principles and SMACNA fabrication standards. The integrated damper makes it a practical choice for zoned or multi-branch systems where individual airflow balancing at each takeoff is required.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for use with standard 5-inch round branch ducts in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC distribution systems.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal mechanics. The air handling system should be powered down and the blower confirmed off before cutting into an existing trunk duct or securing the takeoff. Sheet metal screws and UL 181-rated foil tape or mastic sealant are typically used to secure and seal the fitting per SMACNA installation guidelines. Do not over-restrict the damper blade during airflow balancing, as fully closing a single takeoff can increase static pressure across the system.
