The Southwark Metal 98WD_6IN is a sheet metal ductboard spin-in collar with an integrated scoop and damper, designed for branch takeoff connections in residential and light commercial forced-air duct systems. Constructed from hot dip galvanized steel, this 6-inch diameter collar provides a secure, airtight fit when spun into ductboard trunk lines. The built-in scoop directs airflow into the branch run, while the damper allows field adjustment of airflow volume at the takeoff point. HVAC installers and sheet metal mechanics use this fitting during new construction and replacement duct work.
This collar is used in ductboard distribution systems where round branch ducts connect to rectangular or flat-oval ductboard trunk lines. The spin-in design allows fast, tool-light installation directly through the ductboard face. The integral damper makes it practical for balancing airflow across multiple zones or rooms without adding a separate balancing damper downstream. It suits residential HVAC installations as well as light commercial applications where ductboard trunk-and-branch layouts are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-construction fitting for sheet metal ductboard systems requiring a 6-inch round branch takeoff with integral airflow control.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or qualified sheet metal mechanics. Shut down the air handler and confirm the system is de-energized before cutting into an existing ductboard trunk. Use a hole saw or ductboard knife sized to the 6-inch collar for a snug spin-in fit, and seal the perimeter with UL 181B-rated tape or mastic per SMACNA and local mechanical code requirements. Do not overtighten the collar flange against the ductboard face, as this can crush the board and compromise the air seal.
