The SOUTHWARK METAL 86r84106 is a slant top insulated ceiling box designed to transition from round pipe or flexible duct to an air register at ceiling level in applications with a sharply pitched roof. The box is constructed from hot-dipped galvanized steel per ASTM A653 CS Type B, providing corrosion resistance in attic and ceiling environments. The box shell is formed from 30-gauge steel (0.012 inches) while the collar is 28-gauge (0.015 inches). R-8 insulation with 2 inches of thickness is built in, limiting heat gain and condensation in unconditioned spaces. This fitting is installed by HVAC technicians during new construction or retrofit duct system work.
This ceiling box is suited for residential HVAC duct systems where supply air must be delivered through a slanted or pitched ceiling plane. The slant top geometry allows the duct to approach at an angle while still presenting a flat, register-ready opening at the ceiling surface. It includes a 2-inch flange and a 0.5-inch drywall flange for clean integration with finished ceiling material. The flange on the long side varies in depth to accommodate the roof pitch. The 3-inch collar with bead provides a secure connection point for round pipe or flexible duct. This fitting is appropriate for residential forced-air systems where the supply register is located in a sloped ceiling area.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for residential forced-air supply duct systems terminating at sloped or pitched ceilings with round pipe or flexible duct connections.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal workers. Power down the air handler and verify the system is de-energized before working inside the duct system. Secure the collar to the round pipe or flexible duct using approved mechanical fasteners and mastic sealant or metal tape per local mechanical code requirements. Ensure the drywall flange seats flush against the finished ceiling surface before securing the air register.
