The SOUTHWARK METAL 84ST_2X6 is a sheet metal ductboard collar start fitting designed to connect rigid fiberglass ductboard panels to sheet metal duct systems or equipment plenums. Constructed from hot dip galvanized steel, this collar provides a corrosion-resistant transition point at the start of a ductboard run. The 2 inch tab secures the fitting flush against the ductboard face, creating a tight, low-leakage connection. At 6 inches in size, it fits standard residential and light commercial duct layouts. HVAC installers and sheet metal contractors use this fitting during new construction and duct retrofit work where ductboard is the primary distribution material.
This collar start is intended for use in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC systems that incorporate rigid fiberglass ductboard. It is installed at the origin of a ductboard branch or trunk, where the duct transitions away from a metal plenum, air handler cabinet, or trunk line. The 2 inch tab design locks the fitting to the ductboard face and reduces air bypass at the connection point. Fabrication and installation should conform to ACCA and SMACNA standards for ductboard systems.
Designed as an OEM-style ductboard collar start fitting for use with 6 inch rigid fiberglass ductboard systems in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC installations built to ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed sheet metal contractor or qualified HVAC technician. Power down the air handling system before fitting installation. The collar tab is pressed and secured against the ductboard face using approved ductboard adhesive and mechanical fasteners per SMACNA ductboard installation guidelines. Seal all connections with UL 181B-rated tape or mastic to meet local mechanical code requirements.
