The SOUTHWARK METAL 84ST_1-1/2X16 is a sheet metal ductboard collar tap designed to create a clean, secure branch connection between a rigid fiberglass ductboard system and round or oval duct. Constructed from hot dip galvanized steel, this collar provides corrosion resistance suited to both conditioned and unconditioned space installations. The 1-1/2 inch tab design locks into the ductboard face and holds position during fastening and sealing. At 16 inches in diameter, it fits standard trunk-to-branch takeoff points in residential and light commercial forced-air systems. HVAC sheet metal installers use this collar to maintain system integrity at transition points.
This collar tap is used in residential and light commercial HVAC duct fabrication and installation, specifically where round branch runs connect to fiberglass ductboard trunks. It is appropriate for new construction and retrofit work where a rigid ductboard system is the primary distribution method. The 1-1/2 inch tab seats flush against the ductboard surface, allowing the installer to secure and seal the collar without additional framing or backing material.
Designed for use with fiberglass ductboard systems in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC applications where a 16 inch collar tap connection is required per ACCA and SMACNA fabrication guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC sheet metal technician following SMACNA duct construction standards and local mechanical code requirements. Power down the air handling unit and verify the system is depressurized before cutting into any existing ductboard trunk. Secure the collar tab against the ductboard face and seal all edges with UL 181B-listed mastic or foil tape rated for ductboard applications. Handle cut sheet metal edges with care — wear appropriate cut-resistant gloves throughout the installation process.
