The SOUTHWARK METAL 84ST_1-1/2X14 is a sheet metal ductboard collar tap designed to create a branch takeoff connection in fiberglass ductboard HVAC systems. Constructed from hot dip galvanized steel, this collar provides a durable, corrosion-resistant connection point between supply trunk lines and branch runs. The 14-inch size and 1-1/2-inch tab allow for secure insertion and seating into ductboard panel cutouts. HVAC technicians and sheet metal fabricators install this fitting during new construction and replacement duct system work where ductboard is the primary distribution medium.
This collar tap is used in residential and light commercial HVAC ductwork applications where fiberglass ductboard panels serve as the supply or return air distribution system. It is installed at the point where a branch duct or register boot transitions off the main ductboard trunk. The 1-1/2-inch tab locks the collar in place against the ductboard surface, creating a secure, low-leakage connection that supports proper airflow distribution throughout the system.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for use with fiberglass ductboard duct systems in residential and light commercial HVAC installations conforming to ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or qualified sheet metal installers. Shut down and lock out the air handling unit before cutting into any ductboard panel. Collar tabs should be fully seated and bent against the ductboard face, and all seams sealed with approved UL 181B-FX foil tape or mastic per SMACNA and local mechanical code requirements. Do not compress or damage the ductboard insulation layer during tab-folding.
