The SOUTHWARK METAL 55_6IN is a sheet metal duct tee end cap designed to terminate the branch opening of a tee fitting in low-pressure forced-air duct systems. Constructed from hot dip galvanized steel, it provides corrosion resistance suited to both residential and light commercial HVAC installations. The crimped end profile allows the cap to seat securely over the tee branch without additional fasteners in most applications. At 6 inches in diameter, this cap is sized for standard round branch takeoffs commonly found in trunk-and-branch and radial duct layouts. HVAC sheet metal installers and duct fabricators are the primary trade users for this fitting.
This end cap is used to close off an unused or temporary branch opening on a round sheet metal tee fitting. Common installation scenarios include capping a branch during initial system rough-in when a future register location has not yet been framed in, or permanently sealing a branch that has been removed from the duct design. It is appropriate for residential forced-air heating and cooling duct systems as well as light commercial ventilation applications where standard sheet metal round duct is used.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting compatible with standard 6 inch diameter round duct tee branches fabricated to SMACNA and ACCA duct construction standards.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal duct installers. Power down the air handling unit and close the supply air damper before working on pressurized duct sections. The crimped end should be seated fully over the tee branch stub and secured with sheet metal screws and UL 181-rated mastic or foil tape as required by local mechanical codes and SMACNA guidelines. Do not use this cap on systems operating outside of the pressure class for which the duct system was designed.
