The SOUTHWARK METAL 55_16IN is a 16-inch diameter sheet metal duct tee end cap manufactured from hot dip galvanized steel with a crimped end profile. It is designed to close off the open branch or run of a round sheet metal tee fitting in low-pressure forced-air HVAC duct systems. The crimped end allows it to slide over standard round duct fittings and be secured with sheet metal screws or drive cleats. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal fabricators install this cap during system balancing, zoning modifications, or branch isolation work.
This end cap is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC ductwork installations where a branch of an existing tee must be capped, redirected, or taken out of service. It is commonly used in new construction rough-in, duct renovation projects, and system rebalancing work where airflow to a specific zone or room is being eliminated or deferred. The 16-inch size fits the larger trunk-line and main-branch tee fittings typical of commercial rooftop unit supply systems and high-volume residential systems.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for use with 16-inch diameter round duct tee fittings in forced-air HVAC systems built to ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC technician or journeyman sheet metal worker. Shut down the air handling unit and isolate the duct section before fitting the cap to prevent uncontrolled airflow during installation. Secure the crimped end with a minimum of three sheet metal screws evenly spaced around the circumference, then seal the joint with UL 181-listed duct sealant or foil tape per local mechanical code requirements. Follow SMACNA duct construction standards and applicable local mechanical codes for fastener spacing and sealing requirements.
