The SOUTHWARK METAL 28R_2-1/4X12X5 is a rectangular-to-round sheet metal duct end boot designed to transition from a flat rectangular duct opening to a round collar for register or grille connection. Fabricated from hot dipped galvanized steel, this boot offers corrosion resistance suited to residential and light commercial duct systems. The rectangular inlet measures 2.25 inches by 12 inches, and the round outlet is 5 inches in diameter. The center end direction means the round collar exits from the center of the boot face. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal installers use this fitting to terminate supply air runs at floor, ceiling, or wall register locations.
This boot is a standard fitting used in residential forced-air HVAC systems and light commercial ducted supply applications. It connects to a 5-inch round branch duct on one end and accepts a floor or wall register at the 2.25-inch by 12-inch opening. It is well suited for new construction and retrofit installations where a rectangular register boot is required to terminate a round branch line. The center exit orientation is common in floor boot applications where the round duct enters straight up through the subfloor or wall cavity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting compatible with 5-inch round branch ducting and standard 2.25-inch by 12-inch floor or wall registers in residential forced-air systems built to ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or qualified sheet metal installer in accordance with SMACNA duct construction standards and local mechanical codes. Power down the air handling unit and close the system disconnect before beginning any duct work. Secure the round collar to the branch duct using sheet metal screws and approved duct sealant or mastic to ensure an airtight connection. Do not use the register face opening as a structural support point for the boot during installation.
