The SOUTHWARK METAL 24R_4X10X5 is a hot dip galvanized steel sheet metal pipe boot elbow designed for ducted HVAC register connections. It transitions from a 5-inch round duct to a 4-inch by 10-inch rectangular register opening at a 90-degree angle, making it a standard component in residential and light commercial forced-air distribution systems. The hot dip galvanized steel construction resists corrosion in exposed crawlspace, basement, and floor installations. HVAC sheet metal installers and mechanical contractors use this boot to connect round supply duct to floor, wall, or ceiling registers in new construction and retrofit applications.
This pipe boot elbow is used in forced-air supply duct systems where a round branch takeoff must terminate at a standard rectangular register face. The 90-degree configuration suits floor and sidewall register drops where the duct approaches from a perpendicular direction. The 4-inch by 10-inch face dimension is a common register size found throughout residential construction, and the 5-inch round collar mates directly to 5-inch round duct or flex duct. It is appropriate for both new construction rough-in and replacement of damaged or corroded existing boots.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for forced-air HVAC supply duct systems using 5-inch round duct and 4-inch by 10-inch rectangular registers, in accordance with ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal mechanics following SMACNA and ACCA duct construction guidelines. Secure the round collar to the branch duct with sheet metal screws and seal all joints with UL 181-rated mastic or foil tape per local mechanical code requirements. Power down the air handling system before cutting into existing ductwork or removing existing boots. Do not compress or restrict the round collar connection, as this reduces airflow and system efficiency.
