The SOUTHWARK METAL 21_24X8 is a sheet metal trunk duct end cap designed to close off the terminal end of rectangular trunk ductwork in forced-air HVAC distribution systems. Fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel, this cap provides corrosion resistance suited for both conditioned and unconditioned spaces. Sized at 24 inches by 8 inches, it fits standard trunk duct openings of that dimension. HVAC sheet metal installers and duct fabricators use this cap to seal duct ends, prevent uncontrolled air loss, and maintain system static pressure balance. Fabrication and installation follow ACCA and SMACNA standards for duct construction and sealing.
This end cap is used in residential and light commercial forced-air systems where rectangular trunk duct runs terminate without a branch takeoff or register boot. Typical install scenarios include the capped end of a supply or return trunk run in an attic, basement, or crawlspace. It is installed by sheet metal contractors or HVAC technicians during new duct installation or duct system modification. No special tooling beyond standard sheet metal hand tools is required for fitting and fastening.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal component for use with 24 inch by 8 inch rectangular trunk duct systems built to ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal contractors. Power down the air handling unit and shut off any associated equipment before working inside the duct system. Fasten the end cap using sheet metal screws and seal all edges with UL 181-listed duct sealant or mastic per SMACNA guidelines. Do not leave duct ends open during system operation, as unsealed terminals will degrade system static pressure and airflow distribution.
