The SOUTHWARK METAL 16_8X8 is a 90-degree shortway trunk duct elbow fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel for use in sheet metal duct systems. The vertical, radius-throat design directs airflow through a tight 90-degree turn while maintaining a full 8-inch by 8-inch cross-section on both the inlet and outlet. This fitting is built to ACCA and SMACNA standards, making it appropriate for code-compliant residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC installations. Sheet metal workers and HVAC installers use this elbow where space constraints require a shortway turn in a rectangular trunk duct run.
This elbow is suited for rectangular trunk duct systems in residential and light commercial forced-air heating and cooling applications. The shortway configuration is chosen when the available space perpendicular to the duct run is limited. The radius throat reduces turbulence and pressure drop at the turn compared to a square-throat fitting. Both the inlet and outlet measure 8 inches by 8 inches, making this a straight-size elbow with no transition required at either end.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for rectangular trunk duct systems requiring a 90-degree shortway elbow with an 8-inch by 8-inch cross-section on both the inlet and outlet side.
Installation should be performed by a licensed sheet metal worker or HVAC technician in accordance with SMACNA duct construction standards and local mechanical codes. Secure the elbow to adjacent duct sections using sheet metal screws and seal all joints with UL 181-rated mastic or foil tape to prevent air leakage. Shut down and lock out the air handling system before making any connections in the duct run. Do not overtighten fasteners or deform the fitting throat, as distortion will increase resistance and reduce system airflow performance.
