The SOUTHWARK METAL 16_22X8 is a 90-degree rectangular sheet metal trunk duct elbow designed for directional changes in forced-air HVAC duct systems. Fabricated from hot-dip galvanized steel, this shortway elbow provides a compact turn radius suited for tight plenum and trunk line layouts. It measures 22 inches by 8 inches on both the inlet and outlet faces, making it a symmetrical fitting with consistent cross-section through the turn. Licensed HVAC sheet metal contractors and duct fabricators install this fitting during new construction and retrofit duct system work.
This elbow is used in residential and light commercial forced-air heating and cooling trunk duct systems where a 90-degree vertical turn is required in a shortway orientation. The shortway configuration is appropriate where space perpendicular to the duct run is limited. The 22-inch by 8-inch sizing fits standard low-profile trunk duct layouts commonly found in crawlspace, basement, and attic installations. Fabrication and installation conform to ACCA and SMACNA ductwork standards.
Designed as an OEM-style sheet metal fitting for use in rectangular forced-air trunk duct systems with a 22 x 8 inch duct cross-section, fabricated and installed per ACCA and SMACNA standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC sheet metal contractor in accordance with SMACNA duct construction standards and local mechanical codes. Shut down the air handling system completely before connecting or sealing any duct fittings. Seal all joints with UL 181-listed mastic or approved foil tape to meet energy code requirements. Secure the fitting to adjacent duct sections with sheet metal screws prior to sealing.
