The SOLDERWELD SW-ALCU5K Al-Cop Braze is a zinc-bearing brazing rod engineered to join aluminum to copper and aluminum to aluminum in HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical applications. Each rod measures 18 inches in length and comes packaged in a set of five. The alloy features a low melting point with a narrow melt range, a solidus of 826 degrees F (441 degrees C) and a liquidus of 905 degrees F (471 degrees C), with a recommended brazing temperature of 950 to 1000 degrees F (510 to 537 degrees C). The silver-colored rods include an integrated white flux channel. High zinc content relative to other aluminum filler metals improves wettability on brazeable aluminum alloys.
The SW-ALCU5K is suited for residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration work wherever aluminum-to-copper joints are required. Typical applications include joining aluminum line sets to copper fittings, aluminum-to-aluminum connections, and aluminum to copper wire pigtail splices. The narrow melt range makes it practical for field repairs and production brazing on all standard brazeable aluminum alloy grades. HVAC technicians, refrigeration mechanics, and electricians use this rod where conventional copper-phosphorus or silver alloys are not compatible with aluminum base metals.
Designed for brazing all standard brazeable grades of aluminum and copper, including aluminum-to-copper joints and aluminum-to-copper wire pigtail splices commonly found in HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical service work.
Brazing operations on refrigerant-carrying systems must be performed by EPA Section 608 certified technicians; always recover refrigerant and depressurize the system before applying heat. Use an appropriate torch with a neutral to slightly reducing flame and bring the base metal to brazing temperature before feeding the rod. Keep in mind that any heat-treating solution temperature on the assembly must remain below the solidus of this braze alloy (826 degrees F) to maintain joint integrity. Work in a well-ventilated area and follow applicable safety guidelines for flux fumes generated during the brazing process.
