The SMITTY PAN SMPANSO19ST is an aluminum water heater pan designed to catch and redirect condensation, leaks, or minor tank failures before water reaches the floor or subfloor. At 19 inches in diameter, it fits under standard residential and light-commercial water heater tanks in that size range. The pan features a side drain outlet, allowing the installer to route a drain line to a floor drain, utility sink, or exterior discharge point. Plumbers and mechanical contractors install this pan as a standard code-compliance measure during water heater installation or replacement.
This pan is suited for residential and light-commercial applications where a water heater sits on a finished floor, above living space, or in any location where an uncontrolled leak would cause property damage. The side drain configuration makes drain line routing straightforward in tight utility closets, alcoves, and mechanical rooms where a bottom drain would be difficult to access. It is appropriate for both gas and electric storage water heaters of compatible diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation pan for residential and light-commercial tank-style water heaters with a compatible base diameter of approximately 19 inches.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC), which often requires a drain pan under water heaters installed in locations where leakage could cause damage. Shut off the water supply and power or gas to the water heater before positioning the pan. Route the drain line from the side outlet with a continuous downward slope to an approved discharge point. Do not use the pan as a structural support or allow the drain line to terminate in a location that creates a backflow or siphon risk.
