The SIOUX CHIEF 682-M5113 is a stub-out air arrestor fitting designed to eliminate water hammer in residential and light commercial plumbing systems. It combines a 1/2 inch male threaded outlet with a 12 inch stub-out length and a 1-1/2 inch open branch port, allowing it to serve both a supply connection point and a built-in air chamber in a single fitting. Licensed plumbers install this fitting during rough-in to provide a dedicated shock-absorbing dead leg at fixture supply locations, reducing pipe stress and noise caused by fast-closing solenoid valves in washing machines, dishwashers, and similar appliances.
This fitting is suited for residential plumbing rough-in applications where water hammer is a concern at automatic valve locations. The 1-1/2 inch open branch functions as an air chamber that absorbs hydraulic shock when supply flow is suddenly interrupted. It is typically installed in walls or under floors during new construction or remodel work, secured to framing with standard pipe strapping before wall covering is applied.
Designed as an OEM-style rough-in fitting for residential and light commercial potable water supply systems where 1/2 inch male threaded connections and water hammer control are required at fixture locations.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber during the rough-in phase before walls are closed. Shut off the main water supply and depressurize the system before making any connections. Secure the stub-out to framing with appropriate pipe hangers or straps per local plumbing code requirements. Do not overtighten threaded connections; use thread sealant tape or compound rated for potable water systems.
