The SIOUX CHIEF 645WP42 is a PPSU push-fit reducing coupling designed for F1960 PEX-A tubing systems. It connects a 1-inch PEX-A line to a 1/2-inch PEX-A line without the need for crimp rings, clamp rings, or special tooling. PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) construction offers high heat and chemical resistance suited for both hot and cold potable water distribution. This coupling is installed by plumbers and pipefitters working on residential and light commercial hydronic or domestic water systems where PEX-A expansion-style connections are required.
This reducing coupling is used in PEX-A plumbing runs where a branch reduction from 1 inch to 1/2 inch is needed, such as transitioning a main distribution line to a fixture supply line. Its F1960 designation means it is compatible with the PEX expansion connection method, where the tubing and fitting are expanded using an expansion tool before the connection is made. Typical applications include new construction plumbing, remodel work, and manifold-based home-run distribution systems.
Designed for use with F1960 PEX-A tubing and expansion-style fittings in 1-inch and 1/2-inch sizes. Compatible with PEX-A tubing systems only — not suitable for PEX-B or PEX-C tubing with standard crimp or clamp methods.
Installation requires a proper PEX-A expansion tool sized for both the 1-inch and 1/2-inch connections. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before beginning work. Allow adequate time after expansion for the fitting connection to set before pressurizing. All potable water plumbing work should conform to the applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements.
