The SIOUX CHIEF 641WP442 is a PPSU expansion tee fitting designed for F1960 PEX-A tubing systems. PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) is a high-performance thermoplastic chosen for its heat resistance, impact strength, and long-term durability in potable water applications. This tee provides a branch connection in a run of PEX-A tubing, with a 1 inch by 1 inch run and a 1/2 inch branch outlet. It is installed using the expansion method per the ASTM F1960 standard, requiring an expansion tool and compatible PEX-A pipe. Licensed plumbers install this fitting in residential and light commercial hot and cold water distribution systems.
This fitting is suited for new construction and retrofit plumbing projects where PEX-A tubing is the distribution method of choice. The F1960 expansion connection style is commonly used in residential potable water supply lines, radiant heating distribution manifolds, and in-wall or in-slab rough-in work. The 1 inch by 1 inch by 1/2 inch configuration is a standard reducing tee used to branch off a main 1 inch supply run to a 1/2 inch fixture or branch line. No soldering, crimping, or clamp rings are required for installation.
Designed for use with F1960-compliant PEX-A tubing and expansion rings in residential and light commercial potable water piping systems. Requires PEX-A pipe specifically — this fitting is not compatible with PEX-B or PEX-C tubing.
Installation requires a calibrated F1960 expansion tool sized for the corresponding pipe diameter; always verify the tool is properly sized before expanding PEX-A pipe ends. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before beginning work. Follow local plumbing codes, which typically reference IPC or UPC standards, for approved PEX-A installation practices. Allow expanded pipe ends to return to ambient temperature and fully contract onto the fitting before pressure testing the system.
