The SIOUX CHIEF 517-i162pk2 is a cushion pipe clamp from the 517-I Series, designed to secure copper tubes and pipes to strut channel in plumbing and mechanical systems. Built from carbon steel with a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) cushion insert, it provides rigid support while isolating the pipe from metal-to-metal contact. The clamp carries a 600-pound load capacity and is rated for temperatures from -65 to 275 degrees F, making it suitable for both hot and cold service lines. Fastening is handled by a 5/16-18 x 1-1/4-inch bolt. Plumbers and mechanical contractors install this clamp in commercial and residential piping runs wherever strut-mounted pipe support is required.
This clamp fits 1-1/4-inch nominal pipe size with a 1-5/8-inch OD and is listed for use with copper tubes and pipes. It is commonly installed on horizontal and vertical strut channel runs in mechanical rooms, utility chases, and above-ceiling plumbing systems. The TPE cushion liner reduces vibration transmission and prevents galvanic contact between the carbon steel shell and copper pipe, which is a key consideration in mixed-metal systems. The 11-gauge steel shell provides structural rigidity under sustained load.
Designed for use with copper tubes and pipes at 1-1/4-inch nominal pipe size. Mounts to standard strut channel. Part of the SIOUX CHIEF 517-I Series cushion clamp line.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following IPC and local mechanical code requirements for pipe support spacing. Depressurize and drain the line before repositioning existing piping or clamps. Fasten the clamp securely to strut channel using the included bolt, and verify the TPE cushion is fully seated against the pipe before tightening. Do not overtighten to the point of compressing the cushion insert beyond its intended contact profile.
