The SIMPSON STRONG-TIE MAB15Z is a one-piece mudsill anchor designed as a direct alternative to traditional anchor bolts for attaching sill plates to stem wall or slab foundations. Fabricated from 18-gauge galvanized steel with a Z-Max coating for corrosion resistance, this anchor mounts directly to forms before the concrete pour. The one-piece construction eliminates loose hardware such as nuts and washers. Installation uses standard 10d x 1.5-inch fasteners, two on each side face and four on the top. Compatible with 2x4 and 2x6 sill plate lumber, it is installed by framers and foundation contractors on residential and light commercial projects.
The MAB15Z is suited for stem wall and slab foundation applications where anchor bolt placement errors are a concern. The design allows for flexible positioning during form setup, reducing rework caused by misplaced bolts. It is commonly used in wood-framed residential construction where the mudsill must be securely tied to the concrete foundation. Framers and concrete contractors can install this anchor without special tooling, making it practical for high-volume production framing as well as individual custom builds.
Designed for use with 2x4 or 2x6 sill plate lumber on stem wall or slab concrete foundations in residential and light commercial wood-frame construction.
Installation is performed by framers or foundation contractors prior to the concrete pour. Attach the anchor to the form at the required sill spacing per local code before placing concrete. After the concrete cures and forms are stripped, fasten the sill plate using two 10d x 1.5-inch fasteners through each side tab and four 10d x 1.5-inch fasteners through the top plate. Verify anchor placement meets local building code requirements for mudsill-to-foundation connections, including any seismic or high-wind provisions.
