The SIMPSON STRONG TIE L50Z is a 5-inch L-angle connector in the Z-Max lineup, designed for high-strength angle connections in structural framing applications. Fabricated from 16-gauge galvanized steel, it delivers corrosion resistance and long-term durability in treated-lumber environments. The staggered nail pattern reduces wood-splitting risk during fastener installation. Six 10D hot-dipped galvanized nails are the recommended fastener for achieving the rated load capacity. Licensed contractors, structural framers, and carpenters install this connector where code-compliant angle connections are required at joists, beams, and similar framing members.
The L50Z is suited for both residential and light commercial framing projects. It is a direct replacement for traditional toe-nailed connections at joist-to-beam and joist-to-plate intersections, providing a more consistent and inspectable load path. The Z-Max coating makes it appropriate for use with ACQ, CA, and other preservative-treated lumber where standard G90 galvanizing is insufficient. Installers working on decks, floor systems, or roof framing will find this connector applicable wherever a 5-inch L-angle is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style structural connector for residential and light commercial framing applications requiring a 5-inch L-angle at joist, beam, and plate connections.
Installation should be performed by a qualified framing contractor or carpenter in accordance with local building codes and the manufacturer's load tables. Fasten with six 10D hot-dipped galvanized nails as specified — do not substitute with electro-galvanized or bright nails in treated-lumber applications. Ensure all framing members are plumb and square before securing the connector. Follow IBC or IRC provisions applicable to the jurisdiction when specifying allowable loads.
