The SIMPSON STRONG TIE IS24-R100 is a 24-inch insulation support wire designed to hold batt insulation in place between floor or ceiling joists. Formed from 14-gauge wire with mitered ends, it wedges securely between joist bays without fasteners, keeping insulation tight against the subfloor or sheathing above. This prevents insulation from sagging or shifting over time, which degrades thermal performance in the building envelope. Builders, framers, and insulation contractors install these during new construction and retrofit projects where batt insulation must be retained in open joist bays.
The IS24-R100 is sized for 24-inch on-center joist spacing, the standard framing layout in residential and light commercial wood-frame construction. It is used in floor assemblies over unconditioned crawlspaces and basements, as well as in ceiling assemblies below attic spaces. Each unit is sold as part of a package of 6, making them practical for large-scale insulation runs across multiple bays in a single work session.
Designed for use in wood-frame joist bays with 24-inch on-center spacing to retain standard batt insulation in floor and ceiling assemblies.
Insulation supports are installed by insulation contractors and framing crews working in open joist bays prior to drywall or sheathing enclosure. Flex the wire slightly, position the mitered ends against opposing joist faces, and release to allow the spring tension to hold the support in place. Install supports at intervals recommended by the insulation manufacturer to prevent batt sag. Follow local building code requirements for insulation placement and vapor retarder installation where applicable.
